Cache:

Web documents retrieved may be stored (cached) for a time so that they can be conveniently accessed if further requests are made for them. The issue of whether the most up-to-date copy of the file is retrieved is handled by the caching program which initially makes a brief check and compares the date of the file at its original location with that of the copy in the cache. If the date of the cached file is the same as the original, then the cached copy is used.

CGI:

Common Gateway Interface (CGI) is an important World Wide Web technology that enables a client web browser to request data from a program executed on the Web server. CGI specifies a standard for passing data between the client and the program.

Click-Through Rate or CTR:

Client:

In computing, a client is a system that accesses a (remote) service on another computer by some kind of network. The term was first applied to devices that were not capable of running their own stand-alone programs, but could interact with remote computers via a network. These dumb terminals were clients of the time-sharing mainframe computer.

ColdFusion:

In computing, ColdFusion is a tag-based, middleware programming language used chiefly for writing web-based applications. The language was created by JJ Allaire and his brother Jeremy Allaire, but the product is currently owned by Macromedia.

Common Gateway Interface or CGI:

The Common Gateway Interface, CGI, permits interactivity between a browser and web host. Using CGI, a web page can allow visitors to run a program on the server that performs a specified task. One of the simplest CGI tasks is to submit a form collecting information that the visitor supplies. Some servers have pre-installed/predefined CGI scripts, meaning that the scripts are already installed on the server for you to use on your site. Some servers permit user-defined or custom CGI scripts, which means the site owner creates his/her own CGI script and runs this custom made script on the website. CGI scripts are basically programs (software) that run on the computer where the web pages of a website are stored. They do things that a simple document like a web page cannot.

Control Panel:

An online package of tools permitting easy site management and editing. Almost all hosting companies provide this option today. By having your own control panel, you can maintain basic information about your site, mailboxes, etc. without having to send emails to the hosting company or call them on the phone.

Conversion:

A completed call to action. Typically, a lead or sale.

Conversion Rate:

The number of site visits (click-through) that result in a sale or other call the action.

Cookies:

Cookies provide a means for a Web server to induce a client to store information about itself which can subsequently be called up by the Web server when required. This might be information which the user has supplied about themselves, their preferences or their requirements via forms input. The oft-cited example is the shopping list which might be added to from time to time. Cookies are currently implemented by Netscape and Internet Explorer.

CPS:

Crawler:

A web crawler (also known as web spider) is a program which browses the World Wide Web in a methodical, automated manner. A web crawler is one type of bot. Web crawlers not only keep a copy of all the visited pages for later processing - for example by a search engine but also index these pages to make the search narrower.
